On September 22, 2016, TRAFFIC, the wildlife trade monitoring network, in cooperation with DomDom, The Hub For Experimental Music & Art is holding a three-day Art program called “Art & Your Social Status” to celebrate World Rhino Day.

Item fulltext

People express their social status through different means around the world. In recent years, a growing number of people have started using rhinoceros horn as a symbol of power. Many key consumers of rhino horn use it for medicinal purposes, while others give it as a gift to strengthen personal and professional connections. But this demand is the driving force behind the poaching of rhinos, threatening them with extinction in Africa and Asia.

At the core of the Art program is a contemporary art exhibition, named “Gravity” displaying nearly 30 works of prominent Vietnamese artists including Phan Cam Thuong, Dao Chau Hai, Le Quang Ha, Nguyen The Son, Trieu Minh Hai, Nguyen Huu Su, Nguyen Duc Hanh…. The exhibition will promote a new culture of contemporary art appreciation in Vietnam, with opportunities for visitors to enjoy, purchase and bid on works of high artistic value. Artwork is an ideal gift for partners, relatives and friends. It is also a way for many entrepreneurs and businessmen to display their success in their business ventures.

The second day will feature award-winning movies from Freeland’s Wildfest 2015 and Marcus Mạnh Cường Vũ, the campaign manager of short film festival WildFest 2015, will host a talk show to stimulate discussion and action to protect wildlife. To close the three-day program “Art &Your Social Status” the winners of the silent auction will be announced and there will be a contemporary music concert called “Endless Thread” by the Hanoi New Music Ensemble. This is the first ever contemporary music ensemble in Vietnam, started by composer Tran Kim Ngoc and her collaborators in September 2015.
