ENDLESS THREAD is a chamber concert of compositions by contemporary composers of Vietnam and the world through the ages: from quartet Tay Nguyen (Highlands) by Do Nhuan- a composer belong to first generation of Vietnamese contemporary classical music, who was growing up and establishing during the war time (1922-1991) through Mưa (Rain) of Vu Nhat Tan (1970), Journey No.3 by Tran Kim Ngoc (1975-), to Miniatures of Nguyen Minh Nhat- a promising 8.x young composer. Interspersed are three contemporary works of three important European composers: Syrinx, a lovely solo piece for flute from 1913, extremely characteristic of the Impressionism of French composer Claude Debussy; Quartet for clarinet, violin, cello and piano by German composer Paul Hindemith – an example of German Neo-Classic school which is very much related to the expressionism in visual art and literature along period; And, Der Kranke Mond- a duet piece for flute and soprano from Pierrot Lunaire, premiered in Berlin in 1912, is representative of the free atonality composed by Arnold Schönberg, who was born in Vienna in 1874 and died in Los Angeles in 1951. He is father of the most important musical doctrines in the history of contemporary music, which built the foundation for almost all contemporary music movements (before technology) in the United States and Europe throughout the 20th century: Serial Music, also known as “composition with twelve-tones”.
