With Nguyen Oanh Phi Phi, Vietnamese lacquer has been her core element in her contemporary practice. Without using Son ta (traditional Vietnamese lacquer) on paintings in a traditional way, Oanh Phi Phi made a “swim upstream with traditional techniques” and “bring new life to lacquer by experimenting” such as using lacquer on glass, using lacquer as a material in architecture...
